We’re a local surf school based at Balangan Beach, surfing mainly around Uluwatu and the south of Bali. That means we know where to go, when to go and how to match the conditions to your level for the best possible session.

We focus on small groups and individual attention, so you’re never just another student in the lineup. From your first pop-up to improving positioning and wave selection, our coaching is tailored to help you progress faster and surf with confidence.

At Naing Surf Bali, it’s not just about standing on a board. We teach ocean awareness, safety and surf etiquette, helping you truly understand surfing in Bali and enjoy the waves in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Born in North Sumatra, far from the ocean, Naing didn’t even see the sea until he moved to Bali in 2012 at the age of 17. What started as curiosity quickly turned into a life-changing passion when he tried surfing for the first time with borrowed boards and zero instruction. Learning wasn’t easy. Without guidance, Naing struggled with ocean conditions, surf etiquette and crowded lineups, but he never gave up.
Naing started to work in a surfboard rental, using every free minute to improve his surfing and his English skills and started to teach beginner surfers. For the next 4-5 years, this was his life: renting boards, catching waves and slowly learning how to teach.
His determination led him to train at a surf camp in 2017, where he learned how to teach surfing the right way and worked his way up. In 2024, Naing founded Naing Surf Bali at Balangan Beach, turning years of experience into his own surf school focused on safety, progression and genuine connection to the ocean. Today, his mission is simple: help others learn to surf in Bali and feel at home in the waves and above all, to never lose the passion for surfing.

Indonesia is statistically one of the safest surf destinations in the world when it comes to sharks. The waters around Bali are home to small, harmless reef species (not great whites) that are shy and avoid humans. Shark encounters are extremely rare and not something surfers in Bali need to worry about. Surfing here is considered very safe and with experienced local instructors who understand the ocean conditions, you can relax and focus on enjoying the waves.

What makes Bali such a paradise for surfers is that you can surf all year round. During the dry season from April until September/October, Bali’s West coast provides the best waves. During the rainy season, when the wind changes, the East Coast is the place to go. We make sure that we always take you to the best spot, depending on the daily conditions and your surf experience.
